A member asked:

How do babies be born addicted to a drug?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Placental transfer: If the mother uses drugs, the blood flow to her body is the same to the fetus through the placenta/umbilical cord. The babies nervous system and tissues acquire & process the drug in a similar way to that of mom, and the abrupt withdrawal of the drug by delivery will often produce withdrawal symptoms in the baby.
