Growth/development: Doctors measure a child's height or length (depending on age), head size, and weight at every well visit and plot it on a standardized chart to tack growth. Doctors also have a set of standardized normal tasks and activities that children should be able to do around specific ages (example: sitting up at age 6 months). There is a range of: " normal" & and average for each. The velocity of growth of length, weight, weight-for-length & head circumference should follow a normal trajectory, or growth curve on standardized charts. Developmental surveillance includes using standardized screens ( on firstsigns.org) for each well-child check to assure that expected milestones are met consistently in all developmental streams.
