Depends: It depends on the type of lung cancer and the stage at which it is identified. Stage 1a patients have a 75 - 80% cure rate with surgery and can live cancer free after treatment. Stage 4 patients sometimes only live several weeks or a few months.

Variable: There are different cell types and growth rates( called doubling times)! the small cell, undifferentiated as an example is very fast and most folks die within a year(?Or 2). Some of the squamous cancers are slower and may be quite large and asymptomatic even when large.
