Mostly it is just : Time . 90% with sciatica due to a disc herniation get better without surgery independent of any specific treatment as time is the biggest healer. Treatment also can include: medication, injections, activity modification, physical therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic. Regular exercise in terms of cardiovascular/stretching/core(stomach-back-leg) strengthening while stqying trim & not smoking help.

Pinched Nerve: Sounds like you have a pinched nerve in your back. I would suggest seeing a pain/spine specialist to evaluate you further to evaluate what level and what can be done to treat you. There are interventional treatments besides medications and surgeries that might reduce or eliminate the pain altogether.
