A general question: Blood consists of cells and fluid (plasma). Cells are of 3 general types: white blood cells (which fight infection), red blood cells (which carry oxygen), and platelets (which initiate blood clots). Plasma carries proteins, such as antibodies, and nutrients. A disturbance of any component of the above constitutes a blood disorder. Anemia is the commonest disorder with many causes.
