HPV is a wart: The wart virus is a polyoma virus named human papilloma virus hence the name hpv. There are over 200 different types of hpv virus known some of which are oncogenic like the genital types 11 and 16 and can lead to cancer.

Warts are HPV..but..: HPV is a large family of viruses. Common warts are due to strains 2 & 7 but there are other strains that cause flat warts or plantar warts. Different strains only cause problems in their respective favored living spaces. Genital warts are caused by at least 4 strains (not 2/7) & there are at least 7 non-wart strains that cause genital HPV & are associated with cancer.
