A member asked:

Could you tell me if our umbilical cords were not tied up at birth, what would happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to way-but: In the 'olden days' they were not tied or cut. The body has a way of shutting off the flow to the placenta once it has been delivered. We clamp the cord & cut it to be certain there is no blood loss from the infant at birth. Better safe than sorry!
