Change in awareness: By definition, a seizure causes an alteration of consciousness, and most pts have complete amnesia for the spell. However, the convulsion consists of rhythmical contractions of the arms and legs with possible bowel/bladder loss and tongue biting, with period of subsequent confusion. A complex partial seizure maybe associated with lip smacking, verbalizations, bizarre posturing, sensory phenomena.
