Tumors need nutrient: When tumors grow in the brain, they make new blood vessels (angiogenesis). These vessels are not normal compared to the non-tumor vessels. As a result, more blood flows into the tumor, which allows for more tumor growth. Since there is more flow, at any given time there is more blood volume in the tumor. Occasionally, there may be so much flow that it can shunt, or divert, flow from normal brain.
