Neuropathic ankle pa: There are several reasons people can get burning heel pain. Arthritis in the ankles can be a risk for focal nerve impingement at the ankle, but one cannot exclude the possibility of other locations that can cause these same symptoms. This may include the spine or even the level of the smallest nerve fibers themselves.

Foot pain: Sounds like you may have other issues on top of ankle arthritis. Burning pain can be from several reasons, nerve impingement, neuropathy or nerve damage, back issues, etc. Heel pain could be from plantar fasciitis and this inflamed ligament can also cause swelling around the plantar nerves of the foot. See a foot doctor for a full evaluation. I hope this helped!
