Hypokalemia: Doctors are concerned when a patient develops nephropathy and has associated fluid and electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia. The hypokalemia is usually due to blood pressure medications that deplete potassium so the doctor has to review the medications that the patient is on and if necessary and safe, supplement with potassium. Otherwise, the blood pressure medications may need changing.
