Pitting edema: Swelling of a leg where the indentation from your finger stays indented for a few seconds is called pitting edema. It is related to excess fluid in the tissue. The cause can be related to many things, including inflammation, trauma, blood clot, excess fluid retention, and problems with the heart or kidneys. He should see his primary physician for an exam.
