Soft-Liquid Diet: Give him tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain and put him on a soft-liquid diet for a few days. Check in with your doctor in a few days.

Have him checked: Especially if he develops fever or difficulty in swallowing. Injury to the throat occasionally leads to retropharyngeal abscess.
