Injury to artery: When the heart beats, it moves blood through the arteries in your body. High blood pressures causes arteries throughout the body to swell and stretch more than they would normally. This stretching can injure the endothelium, the lining of all arteries. Injured endothelium attracts more "bad" LDL cholesterol and white blood cells. The cholesterol and cells build up, causing plaque/ atherosclerosis.
