Not feasible: Normal BUN is <20, a value of 800 would not be compatible with life. You probably have erroneous information.

A 42-year-old female asked:
My bun level is 5, is that too low and what does that number represent?

Dr. Jack Rubin answered

BUN of 5: Your BUN of 5 mg/dl is just below normal. It is important to know that its level varies from lab to lab. Your BUN is a function of your protein intake and your state of hydration. If you need any more information in your case, perhaps discussing your question with the physician who ordered the test would be helpful.

A 43-year-old female asked:
What does low bun level mean mine is 5?

Dr. David Fink answered

Blood urea nitrogen : Or bun, is an indicator of kidney function, fluid balance, muscle turnover (breakdown and rebuilding). Normal BUN is between 7 and 20. A low BUN could be seen in a person with lower muscle mass or low muscle use (ex a paraplegic person) where there is less muscle turnover than in more active people. This could also suggest malnutrition. A low BUN could also be seen in liver failure, pregnancy.

Interpret a bun level of 5?

Normal: I assume the unit of measure of the BUN is mmol/l. In the us we use mg/dl. 5 mmol/l is equal to 14 mg/dl. Normal range in mmol/l is 3-5.6 so your value is within the normal range.
