A member asked:

Is it possible to have your period a few within a few days of having mirena (levonorgestrel) removed after not having one while being on it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, possible: If you were having monthly periods while the Mirena (levonorgestrel) was in place, and it was 'due' to start, then certainly; if the periods had stopped due to the progestin in the Mirena (levonorgestrel) it would usually take a few weeks for enough estrogen to generate/thicken the endometrial lining; then ovulation would need to occur and trigger a period (if conception doesn't occur). It is common to have some irregular bleedi.
