A member asked:

After finger surgery staph infection (recovered), is staph risk higher for cortisone injection to free up finger joint?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes.: Corticosteroid medication (cortisone) has some beneficial effects in reducing edema and pain, but decreases the function of white blood cells in fighting infection. It is reasonable to state that in the setting of a previous post surgical infection that cortisone injection would increase the risk of recurrent infection.
