Ovulation required : Ovulation is always required in order to get pregnant. There has to be an egg present for the sperm to fertilize.

Yes, but: You do need to ovulate before you get pregnant but you may ovulate before your first period.

Yes: Breastfeeding can delay natural resumption of ovulation in some but it is not a dependable form of birth control. When it is used that way it often results in babies less than a year apart. When the uterus is ready for a new pregnancy, you may ovulate, fertilize and implant the new addition without ever having resumed menses..
