Carpal Tunnel: Yes, an orthopedic surgeon can diagnose probable carpal tunnel syndrome. This can be confirmed and quantified by a nerve conduction study usually performed by a neurologist.

Yes, neurologist: An orthopaedic surgeon can diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome(cts). Those patients with numbness/tingling in the thumb, index, long and 1/2 of the ring fingers and night pain don't usually need a conduction study. However, if there is any question about the diagnosis, an emg/ncv study can be performed by a neurologist of physiatrist. A board certified orthopaedic hand surgeon can provide treatment.
