What can u tell me about extra heart beats? r they dangerous and what symptoms do u get when having them?

Not necessarily : Extrabeats are not necessarily dangerous, if no symptoms associated like shortness of breath or chest pain. Are you having them during strenuous activities or at rest. Are you drinking coffee or energy drinks? Are you overweight? Are you on medications? Cymbalta (duloxetine) an inhibitor of norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake can cause extrabeats. An ECG and consultation with your physician is very imp.

Depends: A young patient with no risk factors usually not a problem. Older pts with cardiac history needs more work up. However anyone with symptomatic palpiations should be worked up. Symptoms can be short of breathe with the palps, light headed, dizzy, passing out etc. These pts need blood work, echo, and a holter/event recorder.
