Aphthous ulcers: The most common type of mouth sores are called aphthous ulcers. They are benign and usually resolve in a few days. Often, stress and anxiety will bring them out. Another possible cause is irritation from the detergent component in toothpaste. See an ENT if sores are frequent, severe or persistent.
