Caution: Anesthesia is the safest of medical practices today. Propranolol, a 'beta blocker' slows the heart rate. It is important for you to be evaluated by your primary care doctor and the anesthesia doctor prior to surgery. A heart rate of 50 is very low and will require a thorough evaluation. Once you are 'cleared' for surgery an anesthesia doctor can best manage your medical problems during surgery.

Yes: A large number of patients are on beta blockers, and this does not adversely impact their anesthetic. As always please make sure your anesthesiologist knows what medications you are taking.
