Need an xray or MRI: There are many types of heel pain. Plantar fasciitis is only one type, although the most common. Plantar fasciitis usually doesn't present as red and swollen, and is usually more painful 1st step after a period of rest (like out of bed in the am). Other considerations could include a stress fracture of the heel, infection, bone cyst, tendonitis. Seek a professional consultation with a specialist.
