Swelling : What side of your ankle is swollen and where exactly are the blisters or patches of redness? If you sprained your ankle, the swelling is natural and just your body response. The blisters may be due the severe swelling or allergic reaction to any compression applied. It may also be related to some type of skin reaction to creams. Blisters are unusual and may indicate a more severe injury.

Swelling Ankle: We see swelling with blisters after an injury like a fracture but you don't mention trauma so elevate, rest, ice and compression and avoid alcohol. If persits get it checked.
