Yes and yes: The sclera, the white part of the eye, is thin in infants allowing you to see the underlying tissue which is black. This gives it a grayish blue color. Also newborns do sleep alot - be thankful, it doesn't stay that way.

Jaundice?: What you describe could indicate jaundice. While it is usually benign, severe jaundice (kernicterus) can actually cause brain damage. I would recommend having your newborn seen by a pediatrician asap.
