A member asked:

Does a herxheimer reaction to a medication confirm a diagnosis in the absence of testing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Herxheimer Rxn: Originally, a "herx" was described only for syphilis. But, later, it was described for other diseases. If you do have syphilis, and your symptoms worsened after penicillin therapy, for example, it suggests the diagnosis is correct, but doesn't substitute for definitive serologic testing.
