New injuries Aside: Pain in a scar can be caused by the healing tissues compressing or tugging on the surrounding nerves. An overgrowth of an injured nerve (a neuroma) can cause well localized pain. It would be unlikely, but infection or tumor growth in an old scar can occur too. Persistent pain is worth seeing you physician about.
