Compensatory vagal: Intense exercise stimulates the sympathetic (catecholamine) nervous system ("fight or flight" response). Once excessive catecholamines secreted the brainstem might counterbalance with increased vagal ("parasympathetic or rest and digest" tone). Increased vagal effects can elicit the nausea/vomiting. This threshold is reached easier when one is out of shape.
