No evidence for this: Caffeine is a potent stimulator of smooth muscle and may, therefore, have an impact on bowel function. One observational study showed that coffee consumption had some effect on constipation. However, japanese and chinese teas may have components that mitigate this effect of caffeine. If you want a beverage to help you move your bowels, you may be better off drinking a cup of hot coffee.
