Superficial & deep: Yeast (fungi) usually refer to those affecting skin and/or nails-superficial. These affect dry, moist areas of the body, like sweaty (athlete) feet gym, not showering/changing socks after playing; groin/vaginal areas, eg women on antibiotics causing overgrowth of skin fungi. Deep fungal infections are much more serious, and can affect any organs (inhaled-histoplasmosis), or immunocompromised pts.
