A member asked:

Do children with smaller cerebellum have cerebellar hypoplasia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Cerebellar hypoplasia means failure of the normal development of the cerebellum so that it is smaller than normal at birth. This is just one of many causes of small cerebellum; the other causes being due to the shrinking of the cerebellum after birth (atrophy). So, not all children with a small cerebellum have hypoplasia. The radiologist will often be able to tell the difference between the two.
