Swelling can cause: Nerve pain from pressure on the nerves. I don't think ankle spurs would cause pain by the calf, i thi ankle spurs would create pain at the site of spurs. Anytime, calf pain is present, the most important differential diagnosis to rule out is a clot.

Risk of dvt: Your inactivity has put you at risk for a blood clot in your calf called dvt. You need an urgent venous doppler to assess for DVT . You could have something else, but must rule out the DVT first.
