A member asked:

I had a vertical tear on medial meniscus in posterior horn and a radial tear on lateral meniscus in posterior aspect, do i need to go for surgery?

Most likely YES: The meniscal tissue generally does not heal well by itself. The chances of both menisci healing without surgery would be very slim indeed. See your orthopod fro him to diagnose the problem first and then formulate the treatment plan for you.

Possibly: Really depends on your pain and symptoms. If you are having swelling or mechanical clicking or catching you may need a scope to address the tears. You are young so the vertical tear still may be salvageable as well as the lateral tear. Want to try to preserve as much meniscus as possible in your age so would advise seeing someone fellowship trained in sports or complex arthrscopic knee techniques.
