Are there withdraw symptoms from stopping amitriptyline ?

Possible: It is best to taper off antidepressants as most of them are capable of causing withdrawal symptoms. This is especially so if you are on a high dose and stop abruptly.

Yes: Typically, Amitriptyline withdrawal includes symptoms that are the opposite of the side effects it usually causes. Expect some abdominal cramping, loose stools and maybe some insomnia if you were using it to help you sleep. It should be tapered if you were on a large dose. Please do this under a doctor's care. If you were using it for depression, there is no guarantee the depression won't return.
