ITP: Itp is also called immune thrombocytopenia or idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura. Idiopathic means unknown cause. It's a diagnosis of exclusion and results in peripheral destruction of platelets causing low platelet count and petechiae and risk of bleeding. Mild cases no treatment. Severe cases meaning platelets below 50 k respond to steroids, ivig, rituxan, splenectomy, nplate, Promacta (eltrombopag) etc.
