Luteal phase: The luteal phase is the last half of your cycle. During that time, a cyst called the corpus luteum produces hormones that prepare your uterus for pregnancy. You ovulate just prior to this and ovulation is the only time you can get pregnant. It may be difficult to determine the exact timing of ovulation and the luteal phase especially when the cycles are irregular.
