Protein in urine: The cause of protein (p) in your urine needs to be found. The findings of urine on a dipstick are qualitative, not quantitative. You need to have a 24 hour urine done to see how much p there is in your urine. You will also need blood work to see if you have diseases such as diabetes, and others that cause p to be in your urine. If the blood tests do not give an answer, you need a kidney biopsy.
