Pitting edema: First find the cause then you may need diuretic depending on cause and overall health. Elevation helps and compression heps but you don't mention location. Could be caused by a number of things. Start with your gp or internest.

Edema: The treatment depends on the cause of the pitting edema. When caused by congestive heart failure it is certainly different from when it is caused by venous insufficiency or hepatic cirrhosis.
