Watchful waiting: Most strawberry "hemangiomas" will resolve on their own with time with no specific treatment at all. A general rule is that 90% will resolve by age 9, 70% by age 7, and 50% by age 5. If it is in a location that may be worrisome (such as the eyelid or nasal cavity), your doctor may refer you to a specialist for treatment sooner. This is because they tend to enlarge a bit before they get smaller.

Watch and wait: Most "strawberry" hemangiomas need no treatment. They often enlarge over the first 6 to 9 months; then stabilize; then slowly resolve and disappear by age 3 to 5. Fast-growing ones in a vital area, such as the eyelid, nose or throat, should be evaluated by a dermatologist. Sometimes these are treated with steroids or laser, or another medication.
