No: Birth control pills do not work if you don't take them. Please urge your girlfriend to get a pregnancy test if she has missed her period. If you are not ready to become a father, i would wear a condom if you chose to be sexually active.

Spotting on OCP: Loestrin is a lower dose birth control pill so it may cause spotting for the first several months. This occurs more often if she is physically active, women taking the low dose birth control pills. It may relate to insufficient stimulation of the endometrial lining. If she misses pills often, she is more likely to get pregnant as well.
