Most cases no but...: Meningitis refers to the inflammation of a protective layer of the brain and spinal cord called the meninges. Clinically, movements that stretch this layer (i.e. Bending the neck forward) will be painful. However, if your immune system is altered (pt on immunosupressive meds, transplant pt, pt with aids with a very low cd 4 count) may not have this symptom.
