Few weeks : Tricyclic antidepressant (eg amitriptyline) may be effective in treatment of crps when combined with pt, topical pain meds, +/- anticonvulsant (eg gabapentin), +/- nsaid. Combination of all these may provide the best result & often needed, but a stepwise approach is suggested. Crps is example of a condition where in severe cases patients may find opioids an indispensable part of their treatment.
