A member asked:

Expert opinion please: could substance abuse throughout someone's lifetime effect the health of their children?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Most likely yes: Children are very tuned in to such issues. This would be one factor which will ultimately impact the mental & physical well being of children. Seeing a parent suffer with substance abuse can make a child empathic towards others and avoid substance abuse themselves. Other times it will be a patten and life style that will be copied with disastrous results. It is never too late to get help.
