Not sure: If you have bipolar disorder your child's chance of having same goes up, but its not certain that he/she will. No psychiatric disorder has 100% hereditary transmission.

Depends: If there is one parent with bipolar disorder, the likelihood of a child having polar disorder is 5%. If both parents have bipolar disorder the risk goes up to 30%. If there is a sibling with bipolar disorder, and one parent the risk for the other siblings is 15%. Finally in identical twins, if one twin has bipolar disorder, the other twin has a 65-80% chance of developing bipolar disorder.
