A member asked:

Is crohn's disease like cancer and why are they sending my sister to the cancer center to receive blood?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No and transfusion: Chris a disease is an inflammatory bowel disease which can increase the risk of developing some cancers. Likely if she has active disease which may cause blood loss either chronically or acutely she needs a blood transfusion. Medical oncologists are trained in hematology as well oncology and often times cancer centers have infusion depts where blood is transfused and monitored by a hem/onc.
