To determine disease: Unless you are diagnosed, you don't know what your problem is or if it is treatable. So, the point of getting diagnosed is to determine what your problem is and decide on a course of care. If your problem is untreatable, you won't know that unless you are diagnosed.

Excellent question!: First, you don't know what it is until it's diagnosed. You have to rule out other issues that may\can be treated. Secondly, because you can’t "cure" it, doesn't mean that you can't lessen symptoms or reduce risk of greater problems. Case in point, you can't cure diabetes, but it must be controlled or you can die from it.Finally, while there might not be a cure today, perhaps tomorrow or next year.
