Depends: There are different types of allergy tablets. Antihistamines (claritin, zyrtec, allegra) block the effects of histamine so they can decrease itching and redness. The tab singulair (montelukast) is a leukotriene receptor blocker which blocks the effects of leukotrienes--this can also decrease itching and redness. Oral steroid tablets are very potent and have side effects-they decrease inflammation.
