Months to years...: Every person has a unique response to viral infections based upon genetics, nutrition, other medical conditions, smoking, etc... Hiv can be present in someone but be "silent" for a period of many months to a few years time period, depending upon the individual. Hiv infected persons can be infectious to others even when they are asymptomatic.
