Ear infection: Most ear infections in older children and adults heal by themselves in a few days. However, if you continue to have pain after using the eardrops for over 72 hours and you develop a fever or become very uncomfortable with worse pain, your doctor can check you again and perhaps prescribe an antibiotic then if the ear infection has persisted. You make a painkiller to ease the earache.
