A member asked:

Can you please tell me how opthalmologist and optometrist differ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Training: An optometrist must complete optometry school (4 years) after college. Additional residency training can then be pursued (typically 1 year). An ophthalmologist must complete medical school (4 years) after college, plus 1 year of internship and 3 years of residency. Fellowship training of 1-2 years can then be pursued. Ophthalmologists are trained in eye surgery, whereas optometrists are not.
